Today, as my final blog post, I’m going to be talking about a music genre. This is going to be about “Synthwave”! Synth wave was a popular genre back in the 1970s and also came back in the early 2000s to 2010. This music genre has a very retro theme to it that I love.
How did I learn about synthwave? Well, I have a certain passion for listening to certain songs, then listening to their remixes, and some of which were synthwave. Another reason why I love synthwave is the usual retro, vibrant color theme that they have!
I have a few more reasons why I like these retro backgrounds. It has this very neon vibe and there are cool cars in the background. There is usually a neon orange or pink-looking sun in the background. I also really like the effects that they use for the retro effect.
According to the text from this article.
“Synthwave (also called outrun, retrowave, or futuresynth) is an electronic music microgenre that is based predominantly on the music associated with action, science-fiction, and horror film soundtracks of the 1980s. Other influences are drawn from the decade’s art and video games. Synthwave musicians often espouse nostalgia for 1980s culture and attempt to capture the era’s atmosphere and celebrate it. The genre developed in the mid-to-late 2000s through French house producers, as well as younger artists who were inspired by the 2002 video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Other reference points included composers John Carpenter, Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis (especially his score for the 1982 film Blade Runner), and Tangerine Dream. Synthwave reached wider popularity after being featured in the soundtracks of the 2011 film Drive (which included some of the genre’s best-known songs), the 2012 videogame Hotline Miami, the 2017 film Thor: Ragnarok, and the Netflix series Stranger Things.”
Movies such as Stranger Things and the 2017 film Thor: Ragnarok have these very interesting music genres that go unheard of. This is a microgenre, meaning it consists of more than just one thing. Synthwave is a mix between action, sci-fi, and horror film. This microgenre does go by many other names, here are some that were listed above. outrun, retrowave, or futuresynth.
The last thing I want to talk about today is the ending of this blog. I’m going to be ending off by talking about Rap, Country, Rock, Pop, and all other main genres. I thought this would be nice if I gave my opinion on the main genres.
My opinion about these music genres is going to be very straightforward and blunt. The first is going to be about Rap. The whole rap genre is interesting in its way. People can make music based on their feelings. I like it, but it’s just not my personal favorite. Next is Country, I don’t like country, and I’m sorry for everybody that takes offense to this, but I work at cracker barrel and I don’t want to hear it anymore. Next up is Rock, I think rock is pretty decent, it’s been around for a long period and I grew up around rock, so I think it’s decent. Pop! Pop is one of my favorite genres. The majority of pop comes from rock and other genres.
Well, this is my final blog post for me. I can’t wait to walk across the stage.
Goodbye, Everyone!
